Sadly we are now a model flying Club with no field to fly from. We had occupied our site at Newchapel for 41 years and were forced to give it up when the landowner sold the field for equestrian purposes. We had gradually improved the runway and pits area, installing drainage to allow winter use. We had on site storage for mowers and equipment and our members enjoyed good facilities with shelter from a hedge line.
We trained perhaps 50 people to fly model aircraft over the years and have enjoyed a very good safety record. We maintained good relationships with our neighbours ensuring models caused minimal disturbance to them by employing lower noise limits than DoE guidance.
Our membership numbers varied between 30 – 55 members over the years.
Our search for another flying field in the S E of England has so far proved fruitless and the Committee do not have the drive and enthusiasm of youth to go through the convoluted process of starting again from scratch. So the Club will likely be disbanded unless a new, more dynamic Committee come forward.
Other local Clubs have been magnificent in welcoming our members into their merry bands of flyers so most have an alternate Club to fly with, a big thank you to them. We will all miss the friendly spirit of our fellow Club members but I am sure will make new friends with the other Clubs. My experience is that aeromodellers are cast from the same mould.
We will maintain this web site for at least another 12 months to allow an orderly run down. The forum and Fflypaper items will remain so “Old “Felbridgers” can keep in touch.
Long live the memory of Felbridge Flyers Radio Model Flying Club.
